Back in Cairns and blogging

I am back in Cairns after the visit to my mother in Tassie and am catching up on 16 days of local newspapers. And of course one of the news items has been the extraordinary over reaction from the current Mayor to the new blog created by Michael Moore

I can't help but be amused by the over-the-top response by someone who seems to be out of date in relation to how people are communicating these days.

I had a blog on my website in the lead up to the 2004 election and know that the Mayor read it regularly. His rate-payer-funded personal assistant once sent me an angry email demanding that something I had written on it be retracted. He didn't seem to understand that he had no power to control what I write; and it seems that his boss hasn't learnt this either.

I look forward to the current Mayor getting with it and posting to his own blog!!!

Hello,
Cairns Ratepayers Action Group
"CRAG" also has had a dubious letter from councils (Kevins)
solicitors... to which we responded with a list of questions ... still unanswered.

It appears that Kevin believes he can denigrate / intimidate ratepayers at will ... but when he is asked to explain who paid for his State of Origin junket he just cannot see that "Free Speech" applies to ratepayers as well as elected officials.

This brings us to big Kevs version of Democracy in action ...phone him on his radio slot ... ask hard questions ... get knocked off line and you can be sure he will never speak to you again.

Kevin, if you believe in Free Speech you will accept the CRAG offer of a Public Debate on your tenure in office.

You will recall our previous open email to you, and - councillors - ratepayers - media when we suggested that it would benefit all if you resigned before your past catches up with you.

Well Kevin be assured your past is about to catch up with you ... and
we don't mean your expanding waistline from all those ratepayer funded lunches at your favourite restaurant.

Its simple really ... We,the people, require our elected representatives to be servants not self servers ... or masters.
